Web services

Class Calendar uses web services to enable your data to be synchronised with remote information systems such as Microsoft Outlook or your own database applications.
In addition to a set of standard web service endpoints, Class Calendar provides a simple and intuitive web user interface for data access - enabling school administrators to upload and download data at will. For both automated and manual clients, all communications are securely encrypted.
Class Calendar web services are currently in a preview version.
The web user interface for data access ...
The URL for the data access user interface depends on your school URL. A demonstration school interface is available at:
You will need a school administrator user name and password to access this interface - please ask us for one.
The interface allows you to download and upload data in either comma-separated value (CSV) or extensible markup language (XML) formats. Downloaded CSV files can be imported directly into Microsoft Excel. The downloaded file can also be imported into Outlook by using the Outlook import tool. Likewise, a CSV file can be prepared using desktop tools and then uploaded - but care should be taken to make sure that columns are named correctly, and required field values are provided.
Automated clients ...
The URLs for automated data access are similar to that for manual access, with a separate endpoint for each service. A demonstration school interface is available at:
The web service description language (WSDL) document for each web service component is available in the same way:
You will need a school administrator user name and password to access this interface - please ask us for one.
A number of development environments - including Eclipse and Microsoft .NET - provide automated tools that can generate web services clients automatically from a WSDL document. Please talk to us for information and development assistance.
Further development ...
The preview version of Class Calendar web services offers access to a limited - but growing - range of business objects. Forthcoming versions will enable access to all booking data. Likewise, data access is currently limited to batch mode - all records / records since last transfer. Forthcoming versions will enable real-time, event-driven synchronisation via a standard messaging infrastructure.
We are currently also working on access for both Apple iCal and Windows iCal clients. This enables easy-to-use on / off line synchronisation of any client - including iPod - for Class Calendar schedules.
